Motivation

Sometimes you feel like you have no control over where life is headed. What can you do about it though? It's not like you had any control in the first place, you didn't control your birth so you certainly can't hope to control all of your life and death.

So what will you do in the meantime? When someone or something else is pushing your destiny? How will you hold on? Will you cling to memories, bask in the present, or strive for a better future?

I'm not sure what will happen to me, all I know is what's happened to me and what's currently happening with me. But the one thing that makes me ignore all the things that shouldn't matter it hope that it will all lead to these "goals" and "dreams." Does that mean it will, no... but to not try, is to fail before you start.

I always heard that money can't buy happiness... boy were they wrong and stupid (No offense if that's a motto of yours). I think people who say that, haven't really hit rock bottom, or better yet, they don't live in 2011.

In my short tenure I've hit a few rock-bottoms, it's jagged, painful, and it leaves scars. One factor in my rock-bottoms has always been the inability to afford to do something... not that money can buy a smooth-top (ha ha, get it? w/e), but that events leading up to, or resolving the situation afterwards could have easily been a lot less painful having some dinero to prevent, get out of, or just get over tough times.

Believe me when I say that I don't enjoy coming to that conclusion, but that is reality. If you venture out in the world daily, you know that money actually DOES buy a lot of stuff people said it couldn't/shouldn't. You can buy a wife, a kid, a tan, oxygen, more money, friends... quite frankly, I'm surprised there isn't a store that sells various levels of happiness depending on how much you spend.

You would think that by coming to this sort of conclusion, one would be disgusted with the world and hate what they have realized. Actually, I'm more motivated. I want to make more money, to be more happy, or happier as some people like to call it. It's a driving factor in the reasoning behind waking up and going to a job that I never imagined I'd do, behind wanting to be better at that job, behind moving on from the past, all because I want to be more happy. I've made mistakes that have probably made me less happy at times, but if money helps me be happier afterwards, what's the harm? If money isn't making you happy, I'll gladly take it and show you how it works.

Don't let old sayings linger beyond their lifespan. If it makes sense in your world, make it work for you.

Big Ass Bags of Popcorn

So I went to the movie theater the other day to see Captain America (Iron Man > Thor > Captain America btw) and I couldn't help but notice the 2 folks in front of me went through 2 big ass bags of popcorn... Normally stuff like this doesn't bother me but something didn't sit right with me.

Maybe it's because I've been noticing how big portions are getting these days. I get a medium value meal at Burger King, and I get handed a cup that used to be Large when I was young, and now the Large cups are King sized... What the hell are they feeding us I wonder? I hear in Europe and Asia, portions are much smaller and reasonable. I think that's where I need to go, cause I can't eat like the rest of these Americans...

Back to the popcorn though, this bag (grab your ruler) was about 8 inches wide, 8 inches deep, 12 inches tall... Now for me that's just too much damn popcorn for one person, maybe a bit much for two people too unless they are just that hungry. So the fact I corner-eyed these people eating through two of them hoes, just made me wonder why we do it? Why in America is it ok to over-feed ourselves with portions meant for non-domesticated animals, yet everywhere else I hear people remember how big the human stomach really is?

I can't do it yo... maybe I'm not American enough, but I'll be damned if I end up like Hansel & Gretel when the world ends in 2012 and we need a food source.

Poor Like Me

Sometimes listening to music gives you this false impression of what life is really like... I mean realllly like. People embellish a lot... not that it's a bad thing, but sometimes when you're so far removed from reality, it really hurts when it smacks you in the face.

When I first came to Dallas, itching to make a name for myself (both in real life and in music) I had tasted the bitter-sweet smack a bit, but I didn't realize I was about to be jumped into the gang of life. My first place I called my own home was a hotel room. Me, my girlfriend (now my wife), a cat briefly, and four walls. It was an honest experience that I've only been able to relate to one other person. At the time making music, I didn't know what to talk about, didn't know what people wanted to hear, and slowly I started not to care. That was a good thing though, because my message evolved into something more potent even though I didn't realize it.

It gave me reason to express myself in way. I didn't necessarily want to be proud of not having anything at the time, I always wanted more and better, and whats next (sometimes that led to us making sacrifices we probably could afford) but it did open my eyes to others like me. I call it "poor like me" not because of a dollar value, but because each time I improved my life a little bit, whether it was getting monthly bus tickets instead of daily ones, finally getting an apartment, or finally getting a car, I was still able to relate to people who shared pieces of my experiences because at one time or another, they were poor like me, no matter how they were now.

So even if I ever make six figures, or get the so-called "life changing record-deal," there is a place inside me that can't turn away from people who aren't and may not be as privileged because I remember sitting in that hotel room wishing life would get better and I remember, they're just poor like me.

Pair-A-Dyce Vol. 1 has definitely exceeded my expectations and it feels good to see more that double the downloads of my last mixtape. Hopefully that means I'm doing something right? I also enjoy the feedback I've gotten from several people telling me which songs they enjoyed and why the like the cd, and the general consensus I've gotten is people enjoy the realness of the songs, and the fact that there is a variety of styles. I've begun building a network of people that I can see myself working with for years to come. So to everyone who listened, thank you. On to the next one........

Yeah buddy, rollin like a big shot. Lot's of stuff goin dow recently, Slim Thug came back to do some album work, it will be jammin by the way. Almost done with Pair-A-Dyce Vol. 1, coming Feb 2010, also jammin. And I've already started on the next mixtape that is going to be produced by the homie Rediculous up nawf. Been puttin in a lot of hours, trying to get these songs for my mixtape done, and also working at the studio trying to help out and get things in gear for the NBA All-Star game.

It's cold as a motha in Dallas, freakin 20 degrees this past week, but I'm not really trippin, cause it got this low in Jacksonville, just less ice and snow, it's snowed bout 3 times already this winter. I'd trade hurricane weather for this icy road conditions the way these people drive here.

I ain't got much else to say, so.... yeah, I'll be on twitter in the meantime...

Happy holidays to everyone, I know not everyone celebrates Christmas, so this is just a general message to everyone that can be applied to any holiday. Enjoy your family.

If you are able to see your family face to face, whether you love them, hate them, or whatever, enjoy it. At least you are able to see them. My family is hundreds of miles away, my wife's family won't even talk to us and live probably 20 minutes away, and there are people such as my homie Smoothvega who recently lost his mother, and they can't spend this time with their family. So my message to anyone that reads this is, enjoy the fact that you have someone to see. Even if you hate your family, go see them and tell them to their face, at least you can. If you love them, take some time out of your life and show it. I haven't seen my parents in 2 years, and my brother in 3, due to circumstances so I'm jealous of those able to.

Go enjoy the people you have around you. Happy holidays.

Surrounded By Greatness Part II...

Yeah, yeah... been a long time, but it was for a good reason. Been working hard at the studio supportin Mr. Lee and Noddfactor. They recognized my 'greatness' (wink, no homo), and made me the day manager! Still unpaid, still unemployed technically, but I'm am willing to bet my dedication will pay off eventually. I've already met a load of great contacts and new people, and I try not to let a day go by without doing something constructive. Mr. Lee has given me a great opportunity and I'm 200% involved and ready. If he or any of my other Noddfactor co-workers are reading, then thanks man, cause I was truly ready to quit music because of all the bs I had dealt with before.

In other news, Pair-A-Dyce vol. 1 will drop sometime this month, I was tryna come up with some sort of unique, introspective name, but fuggit, I'm tryna make music that moreso describes who I am, things I see/hear, and thoughts I have. All the tracks so far have been recorded at Noddfactor Studio, so quality is way better than my closet I been working out of, but I'm still going back and listening trying to iron out things I think I can make better. But damn it, even if it's 5 songs I like, 10 I don't like, those 5 will be dropping, then on to vol. 2.

I feel like I'm stuck in suspended animation. I wish I could say I know things will work themselves out, but I really don't know. I wake up everyday, and hope for the best and try to be positive, at least I can say that. I don't want much, I just want to be ok, me and my family and everything I do, ok is fine with me. I've been goin to the gym for a few weeks now tryna get back in shape and its an interesting thing to me. A lot of times when I'm working out i watch people, not cause I'm nosey but just wondering why they're working out. I mean i know why I'm there, so what's their reason? Especially dudes with xxl muscles. Are they profeasional body builders? Do those muscles even really add strength? Are they obsessed with their image? What makes people want to bulk up? There were a few times I wanted to be a muscle packed freak but I realize that I don't need to be. I also want to gain a few pounds but I can't force it. I just want to be me and be happy with me, so what's everyone else's motivation.

Everyday I've been in the studio is a learning experience, even on the days where not much happens. Being around people like Mr. Lee and Mike Clarke gives me not only inspiration to work hard on my own projects, but also to work hard and make sure that they see I'm dedicated to helping them out. It only took me a couple days to learn how to work ProTools, but I'm still going to be learning mixing techniques because I want to be prepared for anything. Also as far as equipment goes, I really don't know much outside the basics, but I'm eager to learn every piece of equipment in that building.

I tell my wife all the time, the way to keep your head up in life is to set simple goals. With each goal you give yourself a purpose and a drive. Once you achieve that, you move the level up a notch. My goal is not necessarily to be a famous rapper, my goal is to take care of my family. If that happens behind a microphone, behind a mixing board, sitting at a desk, or moving boxes, then I'll do it, but in the meantime... I'm dedicated to showing everyone around me, I'm capable of anything and right now that's helping make our studio the best in Dallas.

So it's friday eh? Well, so I missed Monday... sue me, it was Labor Day and my birthday so I had a lot of non-work to do. On to the juice, 360: The Rise & Fall is up and ready for people to nod to, from the few people that have heard it so far, I've heard good feedback, so I think it'll be the bomb, but even if you don't like it... maybe you just like me as the person? Finally, I just started interning at a new studio with an incredible producer by the name of Mr. Lee. Huge opportunity and I'm very grateful. Here's a video I made yesterday, quality ain't that great so I'm gonna have to play with it some more today, but if I can't get it butter, I'll just take pics.

F'n A... Welcome to the Block

For two weeks, two long weeks it seems, I've had a writer's block. It's killing me slowly cause I want to make some tunes and enter a contest but all I've managed is one decent verse, 2 ok verses, and 5 unfinished verses. I'm not sure how to get some inspiration built back up, and this is one of those times where it sucks doing music on your own without other musicians around. That one verse I managed was for a track with 3 other dudes, I didn't even hear their verses cause I was the first one to finish, but I think just the motivation to be the best on the song, caused me to get that done. Now I'm back to doing my own songs, and I need a new motivation. I was trying to enter a contest with some fresh, new material, but seems like I'll have to use some old songs cause I'm not going to force it. At this point the only thing I can do is take a break from music, I have plenty to do at least: maintain my site, make a site for 2 people, and one other for myself, work on designs for a clothing line, xbox.... Yeah, so.... it's week 2, and I have updated on time... I think I'm on to something for once. A couple hours monday or sunday morning won't kill me, so hey, I'll do my best to stick with it. I know the forum is empty, but I'm going to beef that up as I type this and give it some sort of content, then I will mass e-mail my old members and hope they come back and stay? Worth a try anyways.

This week, Dynamic Duo comes out, this is a project me and Devastate Mindz, my brother did together. Short and sweet but full of goodness, please feel free to enjoy it. Umm, been doin a lot of stuff down at the studio I'm interning at, they are renovating to the whole joint, but the plans seem awesome. Hopefully some good will come out of it, but either way I love music and glad to have been a part. Ahh, follow me on twitter, and holla at me on the forum, I will be on it everyday. Finally!!!!

After a long tedious process of misplacing sleep, it's done. This will be the layout for a long time, I'm not doing this anymore lol, except for when I make new sites. There are a few bugs to be fixed, some links that don't work, etc. but it's 98% done and ready. So this is the new kick off to a new thing I guess. Now I can focus on my tweeting skills!!! After finding a layout I liked, I decided I shouldn't make my own from scratch any more, I needed a pro model. When I went to edit it however, everything took 5 minutes to load, literally. Text, a graphic, clicking to another object, 5 minutes each!!! Argh what's wrong? Oh, wrong version of Flash....... so I had to get the right one and start all over. Then as I'm doing that, having to figure out how this template was pieced together in the first place, none of it really made sense at first, but I managed to not get too frustrated and keep at it till finally it made sense, yet the task of editing every single piece of the puzzle cost me lots of time. But now that it's mostly over I'm happy, I will edit it every Sunday/Monday and then people will hopefully flock? maybe not but I'm hopeful.

I would type more, and type more coherently but I've lost a lot of sleep and I'm ready to not sit at a computer, until next week....

So by random events in life, I came across a post on craiglists after not finding a job on any other website. Intern for Universal Music Group? gotta be fake... but worth the shot. email them and wait. yesterday, at 4:53 I get a response saying, please reply by 5 to attend interviews at 7:30 that night, and I was reading the shit @ 5, go figure... Anyways I gather a few cds to hand out and go down there to meet Emcee Tree, who has a long list of credentials. I socialized with a producer and a DJ I met, Jeff and Nick gave them a cd, and we basically watched the entire game 4 of the playoff, good win by the Lakers btw (Fisher is the man), and finally after a 4 hour wait I was up to interview, but he said he didn't have an interview for me I was in, and he wanted me to roll to the studio later. So... this is pretty cool, it's what I've been waiting for and what I want to do. Not sure of the details but I know we will be working on promotions for a DJ festival and other various work, I will find out more in the coming days, but yeah. we're here, we're live.

Weather Alarm, Seriously?

Ok, I've been in Dallas since 2005, the rest of my life was spent in Florida. Since I've been in Texas, I've heard about 4 of those emergency sirens blaring across the city for tornado warnings or whatever, none of which lasted more than 30-40 minutes. Now, I'm not saying tornadoes are not dangerous, maybe it's for the folks out in the rural area, but I've sat through loads of hurricanes and never heard an emergency siren in Florida, what's up with that. I know the weather moves fast out here but I would think people have common sense to look at the sky and tell that it's about to get rough outside, but I guess not huh? Just sayin....

So recently I got fired from my day job for no reason..... long story, but anyways... It's been about three weeks now and I'm starting to gather myself and figure out where I'm headed. Musically I'm upbeat and motivated, I'm eager, I'm hungry, and I want people to know. I think I've been under the radar too long, and it's time to take off the stealth mode cloak. I don't think I want to be a headlining superstar act, unless it comes my way, but I'd at least like to make music for people to enjoy, and in the process work with artist that enjoy music as much as I do. As for the day job?.... Ain't nothing out there really, it blows, what a time to get fired eh? But you can't stop a force, and I'm to be reckoned with, more blogs coming.
